🥐 Savory Puff Pastry with Minced Meat & Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 300–400g minced meat (beef or chicken)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1–2 green chilies (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika or red chili powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder (optional, nice desi touch)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Cook the filling
    • Heat oil, sauté onion until soft.
    • Add garlic and chilies, cook briefly.
    • Add minced meat, cook until browned.
    • Season with salt, pepper, and spices.
    • Cook until moisture dries out (important so pastry stays crisp).
    • Let it cool completely.
  2. Prepare pastry
    • Roll out puff pastry slightly and cut into squares or rectangles.
  3. Assemble
    • Place a spoonful of meat filling in the center.
    • Add cheese on top.
    • Fold into:
      • triangles, or
      • rectangles (like pockets), or
      • small rolls
    • Seal edges with a fork.
  4. Egg wash
    • Brush tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  5. Bake
    • Bake at 200°C for 15–20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.

🔥 Tips for best results

  • Cool filling fully before assembling (prevents soggy pastry).
  • Don’t overfill—keeps them neat and crispy.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds or nigella seeds on top for extra flavor.
  • Use high heat so pastry puffs properly.
