Shirley Temple cake

Posted on April 21, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a fun, nostalgic dessert inspired by the classic drink often associated with Shirley Temple—sweet, citrusy, and topped with cherries.

🍒 Shirley Temple Cake

🧾 Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 1 box white or vanilla cake mix (or homemade vanilla cake)
  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda (like 7UP or Sprite)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • ¼ cup grenadine syrup

For the glaze/frosting:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp lemon-lime soda
  • 1 tbsp grenadine

Topping:

  • Maraschino cherries
  • Whipped cream (optional)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
Set to 175°C (350°F) and grease a baking pan.
  2. Mix batter
In a bowl, combine cake mix, soda, oil, eggs, and grenadine. Mix until smooth.
  3. Bake
Pour into the pan and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Cool
Let the cake cool completely before adding glaze.
  5. Make glaze
Mix powdered sugar, soda, and grenadine until smooth and pourable.
  6. Decorate
Drizzle glaze over the cake and top with cherries (and whipped cream if you like).

💡 Tips

  • For extra flavor, add a little orange zest to mimic the drink’s citrus notes.
  • You can poke holes in the cake and pour extra grenadine for a “poke cake” version.
  • Turn it into cupcakes for parties.

If you want, I can show you a from-scratch version, a layer cake with buttercream, or even a retro bakery-style decoration.
