🧄🧀 Cottage Cheese Garlic Knots

Soft, fluffy knots with a rich garlic-cottage cheese flavor — perfect as a snack, side, or party appetizer.

🛒 Ingredients (Makes 12–14 knots)

Dough:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Garlic Butter Topping:

  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp parsley, chopped
  • Optional: ¼ cup grated Parmesan

🥣 Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water, then sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.
  3. Add cottage cheese, olive oil, and yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover and let rise 1 hour, until doubled in size.

2️⃣ Shape the Knots

  • Punch down dough.
  • Divide into 12–14 pieces.
  • Roll each piece into a rope ~6 inches long and tie into a knot.
  • Place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.

3️⃣ Second Rise

  • Cover lightly and let rise 20–30 minutes.

4️⃣ Bake

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake 15–18 minutes, until lightly golden.

5️⃣ Garlic Butter Topping

  • Mix melted butter + minced garlic + parsley.
  • Brush over hot knots.
  • Optional: sprinkle Parmesan immediately after brushing.

6️⃣ Serve

  • Serve warm, ideal with marinara sauce or as a side to pasta dishes.

🔥 Tips & Variations

Extra Cheesy

  • Fold shredded mozzarella into the dough or sprinkle on top before baking.

Spicy Kick

  • Add ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes to garlic butter.

Make-Ahead

  • Shape knots and freeze before the second rise. Bake from frozen, adding 2–3 minutes to baking time.

Herby Twist

  • Use fresh thyme or rosemary in the garlic butter.
