Turkish bread

Posted on March 27, 2026 by Admin

Turkish bread is soft, fluffy, and slightly chewy with a golden crust—perfect for dipping or making sandwiches. One of the most famous versions is Ramazan pidesi, traditionally baked during Ramadan.

🍞 Turkish Bread (Pide-Style) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (or water)
  • 2 tbsp yogurt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For topping:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • Sesame seeds or nigella seeds (kalonji)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add warm milk, yogurt, and olive oil. Knead into a soft dough (8–10 minutes).
  3. Cover and let it rise for about 1 hour, until doubled.
  4. Punch down and shape into a round or oval flat loaf.
  5. Place on a baking tray and gently press a crisscross pattern on top with your fingers.
  6. Mix egg yolk + milk and brush over the bread. Sprinkle seeds.
  7. Bake at 200°C for 15–20 minutes until golden.

🧄 How to Serve:

  • With hummus or yogurt dips
  • Alongside curries or grilled meat
  • Make sandwiches or wraps

💡 Tips:

  • Yogurt makes the bread softer and richer
  • Don’t skip the egg wash—it gives that signature golden color
  • You can brush with butter right after baking for extra softness

If you want, I can show you a no-oven (tawa) version or a stuffed Turkish bread variation 👍
