Tater tot casserole

Posted on March 25, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic, comforting Tater Tot Casserole recipe—crispy on top, creamy and savory underneath.

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 bag (about 32 oz) frozen tater tots

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the beef:
    • In a skillet, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned.
    • Drain excess fat. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Make the filling:
    • Stir in mixed vegetables, cream of mushroom soup, and milk.
    • Cook for 2–3 minutes until combined and heated through.
  4. Assemble the casserole:
    • Pour the beef mixture into a greased baking dish.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top.
    • Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.
  5. Bake:
    • Bake for 35–45 minutes until tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve:
    • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Tips & Variations

  • Add garlic or Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor.
  • Swap beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Use cream of chicken or celery soup instead of mushroom if preferred.
  • Sprinkle extra cheese on top during the last 10 minutes for a cheesy crust.

✅ Tip: For extra crispy tots, bake uncovered and place the dish on the top rack for the last 10 minutes.

If you want, I can give a quick skillet version (no oven needed) that tastes just as good.
