Submarine sandwich

Posted on March 24, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic Submarine Sandwich recipe—easy to make at home and fully customizable with your favorite meats, cheeses, and veggies.

Classic Submarine Sandwich

Ingredients (per sandwich)

  • 1 sub roll (6–8 inches)
  • 3–4 slices deli meat (turkey, ham, roast beef, or salami)
  • 1–2 slices cheese (cheddar, provolone, or Swiss)
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Thinly sliced red onion (optional)
  • Pickles or banana peppers (optional)
  • Mayonnaise, mustard, or sandwich dressing
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the roll
Slice the sub roll lengthwise, leaving a hinge if desired. Toast lightly if you like a crispier sandwich.
  2. Layer condiments
Spread mayonnaise, mustard, or your favorite dressing on both sides of the roll.
  3. Add the fillings
    • Place lettuce on the bottom to help keep the bread from getting soggy.
    • Layer sliced deli meats and cheese.
    • Add tomato slices, onions, pickles, or any other veggies you like.
    • Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.
  4. Finish
Close the sandwich, press gently, and cut in half if desired.

Tips

  • For a classic Italian sub, use a mix of salami, ham, and pepperoni with provolone, lettuce, tomato, onions, and Italian dressing.
  • Wrap tightly in foil if making ahead to keep the sandwich fresh.
  • Add a drizzle of olive oil and vinegar for an authentic deli flavor.

If you want, I can give a hearty hot submarine sandwich version with melted cheese and toasted bread, similar to what you’d get from a deli.

Do you want me to do that?
