Shepherd’s pie

Here’s a classic, hearty Shepherd’s Pie recipe—comfort food at its best 🥔🥩

🥔 Classic Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 500 g ground lamb (or beef for “cottage pie”)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp thyme or mixed herbs
  • Salt & pepper to taste

For the mashed potato topping:

  • 3–4 potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ¼ cup milk (more if needed)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare mashed potatoes
Boil potatoes until tender. Mash with butter, milk, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Cook the filling
In a skillet, sauté onion until soft. Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
Add ground lamb, cook until browned.
Stir in tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, and vegetables. Simmer 10–15 minutes until thickened.
  3. Assemble the pie
Spread meat and vegetable filling in a baking dish. Top evenly with mashed potatoes. Use a fork to create texture on top (optional).
  4. Bake
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until the top is lightly golden.
  5. Serve
Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving.

✨ Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add grated cheese on top before baking.
  • Use leftover roast meat instead of fresh lamb or beef.
  • Add a splash of cream or milk to mashed potatoes for extra creaminess.

I can also give you a quick stovetop version or a cheesy restaurant-style Shepherd’s Pie version that’s extra rich and creamy if you want 😄

Do you want me to do that?
