Old School Spaghetti

Posted on March 15, 2026 by Admin

🍝 Old School Spaghetti is a simple, comforting dish many families grew up withβ€”rich meat sauce, classic seasonings, and tender spaghetti noodles. It’s hearty, nostalgic, and easy to make.

🧾 Ingredients

  • 450–500 g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 1 pack spaghetti noodles
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 oz) spaghetti sauce or marinara
  • 1 can (14–15 oz) diced tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Β½ tsp black pepper
  • Β½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)

πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ Instructions

1. Cook the spaghetti

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add spaghetti and cook according to package instructions (usually 8–10 minutes).
  3. Drain and set aside.

2. Make the meat sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and cook 3–4 minutes until soft.
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if needed.

3. Add sauce

  1. Stir in spaghetti sauce and diced tomatoes.
  2. Add Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and sugar.
  3. Simmer on low for 15–20 minutes to develop flavor.

4. Combine

  • Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce or serve sauce over the noodles.

🍽️ Serve With

  • Garlic bread
  • Side salad
  • Extra Parmesan cheese

⭐ Old-school tip:
Many classic home recipes add a little ketchup (1–2 tbsp) to the sauce for a slightly sweeter, richer flavor.
