Garlic bread

Here’s a simple, delicious, and budget-friendly way to make garlic bread at home. It’s perfect as a side for pasta, American goulash, or soups.


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread (French baguette or Italian bread works best)
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) butter, softened
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced (or more if you love it garlicky)
  • 1–2 tsp dried parsley or Italian herbs (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 cup (25 g) grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven
    • Set oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Prepare the garlic butter
    • In a small bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley (or herbs), and a pinch of salt. If using Parmesan, mix it in as well.
  3. Spread on bread
    • Slice the bread in half lengthwise.
    • Spread the garlic butter evenly on both halves.
  4. Bake
    • Place bread on a baking sheet, buttered side up.
    • Bake 10–15 minutes until the bread is golden and the edges are slightly crispy.
  5. Optional finishing touch
    • For extra crispiness, broil the bread for 1–2 minutes after baking. Watch carefully so it doesn’t burn.
  6. Serve
    • Slice and serve warm.

Tips

  • You can also use butter substitutes or olive oil to make it lighter.
  • Add a little garlic powder if you want a stronger garlic flavor without extra chopping.
  • For a cheesy version, sprinkle extra mozzarella or Parmesan on top before baking.
