Here’s a messy-in-the-best-way Chili Cheese Dogs recipe 🌭🔥

🌭 Classic Chili Cheese Dogs

Serves: 4

Ingredients

For the hot dogs:

  • 4 beef hot dogs
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for toasting buns)

For the chili:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup beef broth (or water)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sugar (optional)

Topping:

  • 1–1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Optional extras:

  • Diced onions
  • Jalapeños
  • Mustard
  • Sour cream

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Chili

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until browned.
  • Drain excess grease.
  • Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  • Stir in tomato paste, tomato sauce, broth, and seasonings.
  • Simmer 10–15 minutes until thick (you want it thick, not soupy).

2️⃣ Cook the Hot Dogs

  • Grill, pan-fry, or boil hot dogs until heated through.
  • Lightly butter and toast buns if desired.

3️⃣ Assemble

  • Place hot dog in bun.
  • Spoon thick chili over top.
  • Sprinkle generously with shredded cheese.

4️⃣ Melt the Cheese (Optional but Recommended 😄)

  • Place assembled dogs under broiler for 1–2 minutes until cheese melts.

🔥 Pro Tips

  • Keep chili thick so it doesn’t make buns soggy.
  • For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the chili.
  • Want it spicier? Add cayenne or diced chipotle peppers.

If you’d like, I can also give you:
• 🌶 A Texas-style chili dog (no beans)
• 🧀 A Velveeta-style stadium cheese sauce version
• 🥓 A bacon-wrapped chili cheese dog upgrade

Which one sounds good?
