Warm, fluffy bread rolls—let’s go 🥖✨
These are soft dinner rolls, perfect with soup, butter, or just tearing apart straight from the pan.

Soft Homemade Bread Rolls

Ingredients

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / warm, not hot)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast
    Mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the dough
    Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir in flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead
    Knead 8–10 minutes by hand (or 5 minutes with a mixer) until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise
    Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled.
  5. Shape rolls
    Punch down dough. Divide into 12–15 balls and place in a greased baking dish.
  6. Second rise
    Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Bake
    Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. Finish
    Brush tops with melted butter while warm.

Tips for Perfect Rolls

  • Extra soft: Replace ¼ cup milk with heavy cream
  • Make ahead: Shape rolls, refrigerate overnight, bake next day
  • Freezer-friendly: Freeze baked rolls and reheat wrapped in foil
