American goulash

Posted on February 14, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a hearty, classic American goulash recipe—comfort food made easy:

American Goulash (Serves 4–6)

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the beef:
    • In a large skillet or pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked.
    • Drain excess fat.
  2. Sauté the aromatics:
    • Add diced onion and garlic to the beef. Cook 3–4 minutes until soft.
  3. Add liquids and spices:
    • Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, broth, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
    • Bring to a simmer.
  4. Cook the pasta:
    • Add uncooked elbow macaroni directly into the sauce.
    • Simmer uncovered for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender and the sauce thickens.
  5. Finish with cheese:
    • If using, stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.
  6. Serve:
    • Spoon into bowls and enjoy with crusty bread or a green salad.

Tip: For extra flavor, let it sit 10 minutes off the heat—the pasta absorbs more of the sauce.

If you like, I can also give a slow-cooker version that’s even easier for hands-off cooking. Do you want that?
