Here’s a tasty Meat and Potato Roll recipe—soft bread stuffed with a savory meat and potato filling. Perfect as a snack, lunch, or dinner!

Ingredients (makes 6–8 rolls)

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup mashed potatoes (plain, cooked)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp salt

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 lb (225 g) ground beef or pork
  • 1 medium potato, peeled and diced small
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp paprika or soy sauce for flavor

Optional Topping:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for brushing tops)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling
    • Heat oil in a pan. Sauté garlic and onion until fragrant.
    • Add ground meat and cook until browned.
    • Add diced potato, season with salt, pepper, and optional spices. Cook until potatoes are tender.
    • Let filling cool completely.
  2. Make the dough
    • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tsp sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    • In a large bowl, combine flour, mashed potato, sugar, salt, melted butter, and egg.
    • Add yeast mixture and knead until smooth and elastic (about 8–10 minutes).
  3. First rise
    • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Assemble the rolls
    • Punch down dough and divide into 6–8 portions.
    • Flatten each portion into a small rectangle. Spoon filling in the center and fold/roll to seal.
  5. Second rise
    • Place rolls seam-side down on a greased baking tray. Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes.
  6. Bake
    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Brush tops with beaten egg if desired.
    • Bake 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve
    • Cool slightly before serving. These rolls are great warm or at room temperature.

💡 Tips

  • You can add cheese inside the filling for extra richness.
  • Mashed sweet potatoes can substitute regular potatoes for a slightly sweeter roll.
  • These rolls can be frozen after baking and reheated for a quick snack.

If you want, I can also give a faster skillet version where you cook small meat-and-potato rolls entirely on the stove without baking.

Do you want me to give that version?
