🥩 Steak with Potatoes (Simple, Juicy & Crispy)

A classic, no-fuss meal: a seared steak with crispy golden potatoes—rich, hearty, and satisfying.


🥩 Ingredients

For the steak:

  • 1–2 steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or tenderloin)
  • Salt & black pepper
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2–3 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • Optional: thyme or rosemary

For the potatoes:

  • 3–4 medium potatoes (cut into cubes or wedges)
  • 2–3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika or chili powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)

🥔 Step 1: Roast the potatoes

  • Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F)
  • Toss potatoes with oil, salt, pepper, and spices
  • Spread in a single layer on a tray
  • Roast for 30–40 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy outside and soft inside

🥩 Step 2: Cook the steak

  • Take steak out 20–30 minutes before cooking (helps even cooking)
  • Pat dry and season generously with salt and pepper
  • Heat a pan until very hot, add oil
  • Sear steak 2–4 minutes per side depending on thickness

🧈 Step 3: Butter baste (key flavor step)

  • Lower heat slightly
  • Add butter, garlic, and herbs
  • Tilt pan and spoon melted butter over steak for 1–2 minutes

⏱️ Step 4: Rest

  • Remove steak and let it rest 5–10 minutes
    (this keeps it juicy when sliced)

🍽️ Serve

  • Slice steak against the grain
  • Serve alongside crispy roasted potatoes
  • Optional: drizzle extra pan butter over everything

🔑 Tips

  • Don’t overcrowd potatoes—they won’t crisp properly
  • A very hot pan is what gives steak its crust
  • Resting the steak is not optional—it locks in juices
