Slow cooker cabbage

Slow cooker cabbage is a simple, low-effort side dish that turns out soft, savory, and slightly sweet from slow cooking. It goes well with rice, roti, meat dishes, or even daal.

🥬 Basic Slow Cooker Cabbage Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium cabbage (sliced or chopped)
  • 1 onion (sliced, optional but recommended)
  • 2–3 cloves garlic (chopped)
  • 2–3 tbsp oil or butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 2–3 tbsp water or broth (just a little)

🍲 Instructions:

  1. Prepare cabbage: Chop it into medium slices (not too fine, it will shrink a lot).
  2. Add base: Put cabbage, onion, and garlic into the slow cooker.
  3. Season: Add salt, pepper, chili flakes, and cumin.
  4. Add fat: Pour oil or add butter on top.
  5. Moisten: Add a few tablespoons of water (don’t overdo it—cabbage releases its own water).
  6. Cook:
    • LOW: 5–6 hours
    • HIGH: 2.5–3.5 hours
  7. Stir once halfway if possible.

🔥 Tips for better taste:

  • Add a splash of soy sauce or vinegar for a tangy twist
  • Add potatoes or carrots for a fuller veggie mix
  • For a Pakistani-style flavor, add a pinch of turmeric and garam masala at the end
  • Don’t overcook if you like slight texture
