Ah, Salisbury steak — a classic comfort dish with juicy beef patties and rich brown gravy, perfect over mashed potatoes or egg noodles. 🍽️🥩

Here’s a tried-and-true recipe:

Salisbury Steak

Serves 4

Ingredients

For the Steaks

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

For the Gravy

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

1️⃣ Make the patties

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, egg, Worcestershire, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Form into 4 oval-shaped patties.

2️⃣ Brown the patties

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a bit of oil.
  • Brown patties 3–4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.

3️⃣ Make the gravy

  1. In the same skillet, melt butter.
  2. Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
  3. Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder.
  4. Simmer 3–5 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.

4️⃣ Combine & Simmer

  • Return patties to the skillet.
  • Simmer in gravy 10–15 minutes until cooked through (internal temp 160°F / 71°C).

5️⃣ Serve

  • Spoon patties with gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
  • Garnish with parsley if desired.

🔥 Pro Tips

  • For extra flavor, sauté mushrooms in the gravy before adding the patties.
  • Use a mix of beef and pork for juicier patties.
  • Leftover gravy can be stored in the fridge for sandwiches or mashed potatoes later.

If you want, I can give a slow cooker version that’s super hands-off and melts in your mouth.
