Creamed chipped beef on toast

Posted on March 30, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic, comforting Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast (often called “SOS”)—rich, creamy, and super easy:

🍞 Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast

🧾 Ingredients (serves 3–4)

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 jar (or 150–200g) dried chipped beef (sliced)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Pinch of salt (optional—beef is already salty)
  • 4–6 slices toast (white bread or your choice)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef
    • If the chipped beef is very salty, rinse it briefly and pat dry.
    • Slice into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Make the roux
    • Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes (don’t brown it).
  3. Add milk
    • Gradually whisk in milk to avoid lumps.
    • Cook, stirring constantly, until thick and creamy.
  4. Add beef & season
    • Stir in chipped beef and black pepper.
    • Simmer 3–5 minutes until heated through.
  5. Serve
    • Spoon the creamy beef over warm toasted bread.

🍽️ Serving Ideas

  • With fried or scrambled eggs on the side
  • Over biscuits instead of toast
  • With a sprinkle of parsley for color

🔥 Tips & Variations

  • Extra creamy: Add a splash of cream
  • Less salty: Always taste before adding salt
  • Add-ins: Peas or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor
  • Spice it up: Add a pinch of paprika or cayenne

This dish is old-school comfort food—simple ingredients, big flavor, and very filling.

If you want, I can give you a modern upgraded version with garlic, herbs, and a richer sauce 👍
