Buttermilk pie

Posted on April 19, 2026 by Admin

Buttermilk pie is a classic Southern dessert with a silky, custard-like filling that’s slightly tangy, sweet, and lightly caramelized on top when baked.

🥧 Buttermilk Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 unbaked pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • Optional: lemon zest or nutmeg for extra flavor

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Place pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  4. Stir in flour, salt, vanilla, and buttermilk until fully combined.
  5. Pour filling into the crust.
  6. Bake for 45–55 minutes, until the center is set but slightly wobbly.
  7. Cool completely before slicing (it thickens as it cools).

The result is a creamy, custard-style Buttermilk pie with a lightly golden top and a smooth, tangy-sweet flavor.

If you want, I can also give you a cornmeal version (more traditional Southern style) or a no-buttermilk substitute version.
