🥬 Baked Cabbage Burgers (Low-Carb & Keto-Friendly)

These baked cabbage burgers use cabbage as the “bun” or mix it into the patty — a great low-carb alternative to traditional burgers. They’re hearty, flavorful, and easy to customize.

📝 Version 1: Cabbage Bun Burgers (Gluten-Free, Low-Carb)

Ingredients

  • 1 small head green cabbage
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 works best)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 slices cheddar or Swiss cheese (optional)
  • Olive oil spray

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prep cabbage “buns”
Slice cabbage into 1-inch thick rounds (keeping the core intact so they stay together).
Place on a baking sheet, brush lightly with oil, sprinkle with salt.
Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes until slightly tender.

2️⃣ Form patties
Mix beef with seasonings and shape into 4 patties.

3️⃣ Cook patties
Pan-sear 3–4 minutes per side or bake until internal temp reaches 160°F (71°C).

4️⃣ Assemble
Place patty between two roasted cabbage rounds. Add cheese and bake 3–5 minutes to melt if desired.

📝 Version 2: Amish-Style Cabbage Burgers (Low-Carb Adaptation)

Traditional cabbage burgers are wrapped in dough. For a low-carb version:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups finely chopped cabbage
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup almond flour (binder)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2️⃣ Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
3️⃣ Form into patties and place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
4️⃣ Bake 20–25 minutes until browned and cooked through.

🔥 Tips

  • Add Worcestershire sauce or mustard for extra flavor.
  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Top with avocado, bacon, or sugar-free BBQ sauce.
  • For crispier cabbage buns, broil 2–3 minutes at the end.

🍽️ Serving Ideas

  • With roasted cauliflower
  • With a side salad
  • Topped with a fried egg
  • As a meal-prep protein option

If you’d like, I can also create a keto cheese-stuffed cabbage burger or a stuffed cabbage-burger casserole version.
