Wonton Soup 🍜 (Classic Chinese Soup)
Wonton Soup is a comforting Chinese soup with delicate dumplings (wontons) filled with seasoned meat, usually pork, served in a light broth.
Ingredients
For the Wontons
- 200 g ground pork
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp minced ginger
- 1 chopped green onion
- 20–25 wonton wrappers
- Pinch of salt & pepper
For the Soup
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp ginger (grated)
- 2 chopped green onions
- Optional: bok choy or spinach
Instructions
1. Make the Filling
In a bowl mix:
- ground pork
- soy sauce
- sesame oil
- garlic
- ginger
- green onions
- salt and pepper
Mix until well combined.
2. Assemble the Wontons
- Place 1 teaspoon filling in the center of a wonton wrapper.
- Wet the edges with water.
- Fold into a triangle and press to seal.
- Bring the two corners together to form the classic wonton shape.
3. Prepare the Broth
In a pot bring to a simmer:
- chicken broth
- soy sauce
- garlic
- ginger
- sesame oil
4. Cook the Wontons
Add wontons to the simmering broth and cook 4–5 minutes until they float.
5. Serve
Add green onions and vegetables if using. Serve hot.
