Puff Pastry Filled with Meat and Cheese 🥐🧀🥩

This is a versatile and delicious dish where flaky puff pastry encases a savory meat and cheese filling. It can be made with ground beef, sausage, or shredded chicken and is perfect for appetizers, snacks, or a main dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 lb ground beef (or cooked sausage, chicken, or turkey)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or any cheese of choice)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Cook the filling
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add ground beef and oregano, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in shredded cheese.
  2. Prepare puff pastry
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into squares or rectangles, depending on desired size.
  3. Fill and seal
Place a spoonful of meat and cheese filling in the center of each square. Fold the pastry over (into a triangle or rectangle) and press edges with a fork to seal. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  4. Bake
Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 18–22 minutes until puffed and golden brown.

Serving Ideas 🍽️

  • Serve with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping
  • Pair with a side salad 🥗 for a complete meal
  • Great for parties or as a snack plate

💡 Tip:

  • For extra flavor, add sautéed mushrooms or spinach to the meat filling.
  • You can make these ahead of time and freeze before baking; bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.

If you want, I can also give a mini puff pastry version perfect for appetizers.
