Salisbury steak is a classic comfort dish made from seasoned ground beef patties served with a rich brown onion gravy. Itβs similar to a hamburger steak but usually includes breadcrumbs and seasonings mixed into the meat.
Ingredients
For the Steaks
- 1 lb ground beef
- Β½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

- Β½ tsp black pepper
- Β½ tsp salt
For the Gravy
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- Optional: sliced mushrooms
Instructions
- Make the patties
In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. - Shape the steaks
Form the mixture into 4 oval patties. - Brown the patties
Cook them in a skillet over medium heat for 4β5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside. - Cook the onions
In the same pan, melt butter and cook sliced onions (and mushrooms if using) until soft. - Make the gravy
Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute. Slowly add beef broth while stirring. - Simmer
Return the patties to the pan and simmer 10β15 minutes until the gravy thickens and the meat is cooked through.
