Korean Fried Chicken

🍗 Korean Fried Chicken (Crispy & Sweet-Spicy)

Korean fried chicken is extra crispy on the outside and juicy inside, usually coated in a sticky, sweet-spicy sauce. Perfect for a snack, appetizer, or meal. 🌶️


🧾 Ingredients

Chicken

  • 2 lbs (900 g) chicken wings or drumettes
  • ½ cup cornstarch or potato starch
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Sauce

  • ¼ cup gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp honey or corn syrup
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Optional: ½ tsp ginger, minced

Garnish

  • Toasted sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prep the chicken

  • Pat chicken wings dry and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Toss in cornstarch until evenly coated.

2️⃣ Fry the chicken

  • Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F / 175°C.
  • Fry chicken in batches 6–8 minutes until golden and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

3️⃣ Make the sauce

  • In a small saucepan, combine gochujang, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, brown sugar, garlic, sesame oil, and ginger.
  • Simmer 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.

4️⃣ Coat the chicken

  • Toss fried chicken in the sauce until evenly coated.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot.

🍽️ Tips & Variations

  • Double-fry chicken for extra crispiness: fry once at lower temp, rest, then fry again at higher temp.
  • Adjust the sauce for sweetness or spiciness to taste.
  • Serve with pickled radish or steamed rice for a classic Korean experience.
