Potatoes and onions

Posted on March 10, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and delicious way to cook potatoes and onions — perfect as a side dish 🥔🧅.

Ingredients (serves 2–4)

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled or unpeeled, cut into cubes or thin slices
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2–3 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ½ tsp paprika or garlic powder (optional)
  • Fresh herbs (parsley, thyme, or rosemary) for garnish

Instructions

1. Prep

  • Wash and cut potatoes into evenly sized pieces for even cooking.
  • Slice the onion into rings or half-moons.

2. Cook on stove

  1. Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add potatoes and cook 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add onions, salt, pepper, and optional spices.
  4. Continue cooking 10–15 minutes until potatoes are tender and golden brown, and onions are caramelized.

3. Bake option

  • Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • Toss potatoes and onions with oil, salt, pepper, and herbs.
  • Spread on a baking sheet and roast 25–30 minutes, stirring halfway, until golden and tender.

4. Serve

  • Garnish with fresh herbs.
  • Serve as a side with eggs, meat, or chicken.

💡 Tips

  • For extra flavor, add minced garlic during the last 2–3 minutes of cooking.
  • You can also sprinkle grated Parmesan before serving for a cheesy twist.
  • For a crispier texture, soak potato slices in water for 10 minutes, then pat dry before cooking.

I can also give you a one-pan skillet version with bacon that’s extra savory.

Do you want me to share that version?
