🧀 Classic Macaroni & Cheese (Creamy & Comforting)

A timeless, cheesy dish — soft, creamy, and perfect as a side or main.

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 12 oz elbow macaroni
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk (whole milk works best)
  • 2½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella or Gruyère (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: pinch of paprika or mustard powder

🔥 Stovetop Method (Creamy)

1️⃣ Cook pasta

  • Boil macaroni in salted water until al dente. Drain.

2️⃣ Make roux

  • In a pot, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Whisk in flour, cook 1–2 minutes until slightly golden.

3️⃣ Add milk

  • Gradually whisk in milk. Cook 3–5 minutes, stirring, until thickened.

4️⃣ Add cheese

  • Reduce heat to low. Stir in shredded cheese until smooth.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.

5️⃣ Combine

  • Fold in cooked pasta. Serve immediately.

🔥 Baked Version (Golden Top)

  1. Pour mac & cheese into a greased 9×13-inch dish.
  2. Top with extra cheese and/or buttered breadcrumbs.
  3. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.

🌿 Tips

  • Shred cheese yourself for smoother melting.
  • Add a spoonful of cream cheese for extra creaminess.
  • Mix cheddar with Gruyère, mozzarella, or Monterey Jack for richer flavor.
  • Don’t overcook pasta — it continues cooking in the sauce.

If you want, I can also give you:

  • Southern-style baked mac & cheese
  • One-pot creamy mac & cheese
  • Gourmet mac & cheese with bacon or lobster
