🍤 Mexican Shrimp Cocktail (Cóctel de Camarón)

A refreshing, zesty shrimp dish served chilled — perfect as an appetizer or light meal.


🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 lb cooked, peeled, and deveined shrimp (medium or large)
  • 1 cup tomato juice (or Clamato for extra flavor)
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 1 small cucumber, diced
  • 1 small tomato, diced
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion
  • ½ avocado, diced
  • 1–2 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1–2 jalapeños, finely chopped (optional, adjust heat)
  • Salt & black pepper
  • Optional: hot sauce (to taste)

🔥 Instructions

1️⃣ Prep shrimp & vegetables

  • If using raw shrimp, boil in salted water 2–3 minutes until pink, then chill.
  • Dice cucumber, tomato, onion, jalapeño, and avocado.

2️⃣ Mix cocktail base

  • In a large bowl, combine tomato juice, ketchup, lime juice, salt, pepper, and hot sauce if using.

3️⃣ Combine everything

  • Add shrimp and diced vegetables to the juice mixture.
  • Gently stir to combine.

4️⃣ Chill

  • Refrigerate 30–60 minutes before serving for flavors to meld.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Serve in glasses, bowls, or traditional tall cocktail glasses.
  • Garnish with cilantro, lime wedge, or extra avocado.

  • Add cooked corn kernels or cooked octopus for variety.
  • Use Clamato for a slightly briny flavor.
  • Serve with saltine crackers, tortilla chips, or tostadas.
  • Adjust spiciness with more or fewer jalapeños or hot sauce.
