Breadsticks

🥖 Soft and Chewy Breadsticks

Perfect as a side for pasta, soup, or just for snacking with butter or garlic dip.


🛒 Ingredients (Makes 12–16 breadsticks)

  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (plus more for brushing)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Optional: 2 tbsp melted butter, garlic powder, or herbs for topping

🔥 Instructions

1️⃣ Activate yeast

  • In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast.
  • Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2️⃣ Make dough

  • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Add yeast mixture and olive oil.
  • Knead 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

3️⃣ First rise

  • Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise 1 hour, until doubled.

4️⃣ Shape breadsticks

  • Punch down dough.
  • Divide into 12–16 pieces. Roll each into a stick (~6 inches long).
  • Place on greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.

5️⃣ Second rise

  • Cover and let rise 20–30 minutes.

6️⃣ Bake

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Bake 12–15 minutes until golden brown.

7️⃣ Optional finishing touch

  • Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with garlic powder, Parmesan, or herbs.

🌿 Tips

  • For extra chewy breadsticks, replace ¼ cup flour with bread flour.
  • Add grated Parmesan, rosemary, or oregano for flavored sticks.
  • Serve warm for best texture.
