🥧 Shepherd’s Pie (Classic British Style)

Meat Filling
- 1 lb ground lamb (or ground beef)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef or lamb broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp thyme or rosemary
- 1 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)
- Salt & black pepper
Mashed Potato Topping
- 2 lbs potatoes, peeled & chopped
- 4 tbsp butter
- ½ cup milk or cream
- Salt & pepper
🔥 Instructions
1️⃣ Make the mashed potatoes
- Boil potatoes in salted water 15–20 minutes until tender.
- Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
- Set aside.
2️⃣ Prepare the filling
- Sauté onion and carrots 5 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
- Add lamb and cook until browned.
- Stir in flour (if using) and cook 1 minute.
- Add tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire, and herbs.
- Simmer 5–8 minutes until thickened.
- Stir in peas. Adjust seasoning.
3️⃣ Assemble
- Spread meat mixture into a baking dish.
- Spoon mashed potatoes over top.
- Use a fork to create texture (helps browning).
4️⃣ Bake
- 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden on top.
- Broil 2–3 minutes for extra browning if desired.
