🍜 Chinese Noodles

Quick, savory, and versatile — a classic stir-fry noodle dish you can customize with vegetables, protein, or a simple soy-based sauce.

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

  • 8 oz (225 g) Chinese-style noodles (lo mein, chow mein, or egg noodles)
  • 2–3 tbsp vegetable or sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1–2 cups vegetables (bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, snow peas)
  • 2–3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce or hoisin sauce (optional)
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • Optional: protein such as chicken, shrimp, beef, or tofu
  • Optional garnish: sesame seeds, green onions, or cilantro

🥣 Instructions

1️⃣ Cook Noodles

  • Boil noodles according to package instructions until just tender.
  • Drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking; set aside.

2️⃣ Stir-Fry Vegetables (and Protein)

  • Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add garlic and onion; stir-fry 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add vegetables and protein; stir-fry 3–5 minutes until cooked but crisp-tender.

3️⃣ Combine with Noodles

  • Add cooked noodles to the skillet.
  • Pour soy sauce, oyster/hoisin sauce, and sugar over noodles.
  • Toss everything together 2–3 minutes until heated through and evenly coated.

4️⃣ Serve

  • Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds, green onions, or cilantro.

🔥 Tips & Variations

  • Lo Mein Style: Toss noodles in sauce at the end, keeping them soft.
  • Chow Mein Style: Stir-fry noodles longer for slight crispiness.
  • Spicy Version: Add chili paste, sriracha, or red pepper flakes.
  • Vegetable Boost: Include mushrooms, bok choy, or bean sprouts for more texture.
  • Make-Ahead: Cook noodles and store separately; stir-fry with fresh vegetables and sauce when ready.
