🥔🧅 Pan-Fried Potatoes and Onions

A simple, comforting side dish with tender, golden potatoes and caramelized onions — perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

🛒 Ingredients (Serves 2–4)

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled or scrubbed, sliced or diced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2–3 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: garlic, paprika, fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, parsley)

🥣 Instructions

1️⃣ Prep Ingredients

  • Slice or dice potatoes evenly for even cooking.
  • Slice onions thinly.

2️⃣ Par-Cook Potatoes (Optional for Faster Cooking)

  • Boil potatoes 5–7 minutes until just tender, then drain. This step ensures soft interior without overcooking onions.

3️⃣ Cook Potatoes

  • Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add potatoes and cook 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and slightly crispy.

4️⃣ Add Onions

  • Add sliced onions to the skillet with potatoes.
  • Cook 5–7 minutes more, stirring occasionally, until onions are caramelized and potatoes are fully tender.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs or spices.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Serve hot as a side dish with eggs, meat, or roasted chicken.

🔥 Tips & Variations

  • Extra Crispy: Cook potatoes a bit longer on medium-high heat, leaving them undisturbed for a few minutes to brown.
  • Caramelized Flavor: Add a pinch of sugar to onions to enhance sweetness.
  • Add Garlic: Stir in minced garlic during the last 1–2 minutes of cooking.
  • Cheesy Twist: Sprinkle shredded cheese over potatoes and onions at the end, cover to melt.

If you want, I can also give you:

  • Oven-roasted potatoes and onions
  • Breakfast hash style with peppers and sausage
  • Herb-roasted version with garlic and rosemary
  • Skillet “country-style” potatoes with bacon

Do you want them soft and tender or crispy and browned?
