Here’s a classic, reliable homemade pie recipe you can use with almost any fruit filling 🍎🥧

🥧 Classic Double-Crust Pie (Fruit Pie)

🧈 Pie Crust (from scratch)

Ingredients:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add ice water 1 tbsp at a time, mixing gently until the dough just comes together.
  4. Divide into two discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.

🍎 Simple Apple Filling

Ingredients:

  • 6–7 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour or cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and slice apples.
  2. Toss with sugar, flour, spices, and lemon juice.

🥧 Assemble & Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out one dough disc and place into a 9-inch pie pan.
  3. Add apple filling and dot with butter.
  4. Roll out second crust and place over top. Seal and crimp edges. Cut slits for steam.
  5. Brush with egg wash (1 egg + 1 tbsp milk) for golden color.
  6. Bake 45–55 minutes, until crust is golden and filling is bubbling.
  7. Cool at least 2 hours before slicing.
