Meatball Sub Casserole

Posted on January 19, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a hearty Meatball Sub Casserole — all the flavors of a classic sub, baked into a comforting one-pan dish 🍝🥖🧀

Meatball Sub Casserole

Serves: 4–6
Time: ~45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 500 g (1 lb) cooked meatballs (beef, pork, or chicken)
  • 3 cups marinara or pasta sauce
  • 3–4 cups cubed bread (day-old rolls or baguette work best)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • Optional: fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare bread
Cube bread into bite-sized pieces and spread half in the bottom of the dish.
  3. Add sauce & meatballs
Pour half the marinara over the bread. Nestle meatballs on top. Sprinkle with half the mozzarella and Parmesan.
  4. Layer again
Repeat with remaining bread, sauce, and cheeses. Sprinkle oregano over the top.
  5. Bake
Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake 10–15 minutes more until cheese is golden and bubbly.
  6. Garnish & serve
Let rest 5 minutes, sprinkle with fresh herbs, and serve hot.

Variations

  • Spicy: Add red pepper flakes to sauce or cheese layers
  • Vegetable boost: Layer in sautéed onions, bell peppers, or mushrooms
  • Cheesy overload: Mix mozzarella with provolone or fontina
  • Make-ahead: Assemble the casserole, cover, refrigerate overnight, and bake the next day

Serving Suggestions

  • Side salad or garlic green beans
  • Roasted sweet potatoes or fries
  • Extra marinara for dipping

If you want, I can make a slow-cooker version, mini individual servings, or a low-carb twist that uses zucchini noodles instead of bread.

Do you want me to do that?
