🌭🥐 Sausage Roll (Flaky Bakery-Style Snack)

A sausage roll is a savory pastry made by wrapping seasoned sausage meat in puff pastry and baking it until golden, crisp, and flaky. It’s simple, filling, and great as a snack or light meal.


🧾 Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 300–400g sausage meat (or minced beef/lamb)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped, optional)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt & black pepper
  • Optional: garlic powder, chili flakes, mixed herbs

🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare filling

  • Mix sausage meat with onion, salt, pepper, and any spices
  • Stir until well combined

2. Assemble

  1. Roll out puff pastry on a flat surface
  2. Place filling in a long strip along the center
  3. Fold pastry over the filling
  4. Seal the edge with a bit of beaten egg

3. Shape & cut

  • Flip seam-side down
  • Cut into smaller rolls (or keep as one large roll)
  • Brush top with egg wash

4. Bake

  • Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 20–25 minutes
  • Until puffed and deep golden brown

💡 Tips

  • Keep pastry cold for extra flakiness
  • Don’t overfill or it may burst while baking
  • Let cool a few minutes before eating (filling stays very hot)
