Scones

Posted on March 29, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic scones recipe—fluffy, slightly crumbly, and perfect for breakfast, tea, or a snack. You can make sweet or savory versions depending on your preference.

Ingredients (Makes 8 scones)

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) sugar (for sweet scones)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2/3 cup (160 ml) milk (or cream for richer scones)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional, for sweet scones)
  • Optional additions: raisins, chocolate chips, berries, or herbs for savory scones

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    • 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients
    • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the butter
    • Use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to mix cold butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add wet ingredients
    • Stir in milk (and vanilla if using) until the dough just comes together. Don’t overmix.
  5. Shape the scones
    • Turn dough onto a floured surface, gently pat into a 1-inch thick round.
    • Cut into 8 wedges or use a round cookie cutter.
  6. Bake
    • Place scones on the prepared baking sheet. Bake 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve
    • Serve warm with butter, jam, honey, or clotted cream.

Tips

  • Keep the butter cold for fluffier, flakier scones.
  • For extra shine, brush tops with milk or beaten egg before baking.
  • You can make them savory by adding shredded cheese, herbs, or cooked bacon bits.
