Ingredients (Makes 1 loaf)

  • 3 cups (360 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup (115 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    • Preheat to 180°C (350°F). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients
    • In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper.
    • Stir in shredded cheddar cheese, reserving a small amount for topping.
  3. Mix wet ingredients
    • In another bowl, whisk together milk, oil (or melted butter), and eggs.
  4. Combine
    • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined—don’t overmix.
  5. Bake
    • Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the reserved cheddar on top.
    • Bake 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and serve
    • Let the loaf cool 10–15 minutes before slicing.
