Cabbage Noodles

Posted on March 26, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and classic recipe for cabbage and noodles (often called “Haluski” in Eastern European cuisine”) — quick, comforting, and flavorful:

Ingredients:

  • 1 small head of cabbage, shredded
  • 12 oz (340 g) egg noodles or wide pasta
  • 4 tablespoons butter (or more to taste)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon caraway seeds, or ½ cup cooked bacon/ham for extra flavor

Instructions:

  1. Cook the noodles:
    • Boil the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Cook the cabbage:
    • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Add the onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
    • Add shredded cabbage, salt, pepper, and optional caraway seeds. Cook 8–10 minutes until cabbage is tender but not mushy.
  3. Combine:
    • Add the cooked noodles to the cabbage and onions. Toss well to coat everything with butter and seasoning.
    • Optional: Stir in cooked bacon or ham for a richer flavor.
  4. Serve hot:
    • Perfect as a side dish or a main with a simple protein.

If you want, I can also give a one-pot slow cooker version of cabbage and noodles for a hands-off approach that keeps it soft and flavorful. Do you want me to share that?
