Apple crisp

Posted on March 25, 2026 by Admin

Apple crisp is a warm, comforting dessert featuring baked apples topped with a crumbly streusel made of oats, flour, butter, and sugar. Unlike apple pie, it doesn’t have a bottom crust—just the sweet, spiced apple filling and a crispy topping.

Key Features:

  • Texture: Soft, tender apples with a crunchy topping
  • Flavors: Cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, sometimes a hint of lemon
  • Serving: Often served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Simple Apple Crisp Recipe (Serves 4–6)

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 5–6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp flour (optional, to thicken)

For the topping:

  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ⅓ cup flour
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the apples: In a bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and flour. Spread evenly in a greased baking dish.
  3. Make the topping: In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir in melted butter until crumbly.
  4. Assemble: Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake: 35–40 minutes until topping is golden and apples are tender.
  6. Serve: Let cool slightly and enjoy warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.

✅ Tip: For extra flavor, you can add chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) to the topping or a splash of vanilla extract to the apples.

If you like, I can also give a quick 20-minute skillet version that’s perfect for small servings.
