Sausage and Potato Casserole

Posted on March 25, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a simple and hearty Sausage and Potato Casserole recipe:

Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450g) sausages (pork, beef, or chicken)
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (optional)
  • 1 cup milk or cream
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, or parsley)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • Set oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare sausages:
    • In a skillet, cook sausages over medium heat until browned.
    • Remove and slice into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Cook onions and garlic:
    • In the same skillet, sauté onions and garlic in olive oil until soft and fragrant.
  4. Layer the casserole:
    • Grease a baking dish.
    • Layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom.
    • Add half of the sausage and onion mixture.
    • Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
    • Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, sausage, and onions.
  5. Add liquid and cheese:
    • Pour milk or cream over the layers.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top (optional).
  6. Bake:
    • Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender and top is golden.
  7. Serve:
    • Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

✅ Tip: You can add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor. Thinly slicing the potatoes ensures they cook evenly.

If you want, I can also give a quick one-pan version that cooks entirely on the stovetop. Do you want me to do that?
