White bread

Posted on April 7, 2026 by Admin

Ah, the classic white bread — soft, slightly sweet, fluffy, and perfect for sandwiches or toast. Here’s a clear overview along with a basic recipe you can make at home.

🍞 White Bread Basics

Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 cups (400 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp / 7 g) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm water (around 105–110 °F / 40–43 °C)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter or oil

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast:
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make dough:
In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and butter. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead:
Knead on a floured surface 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook.
  4. First rise:
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Shape & second rise:
Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased 9×5” loaf pan. Cover and let rise another 45–60 minutes.
  6. Bake:
Preheat oven to 375 °F (190 °C). Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown. Tap the bottom — it should sound hollow.
  7. Cool:
Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack. Slice when completely cool for the best texture.

Tips for Extra Soft White Bread

  • Use milk instead of water for richer flavor.
  • Add 1–2 tbsp of honey for a subtle sweetness.
  • Brushing the top with melted butter after baking keeps the crust soft.

White bread is super versatile: sandwiches, toast, French toast, bread pudding — you name it.

If you want, I can also give a super easy 3-ingredient “no-knead” white bread recipe that takes under 2 hours. That one’s almost magic. Do you want me to do that?
