🍔 Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

A hearty twist on the classic Sloppy Joe — served on thick, buttery Texas toast for an indulgent, comfort-food meal.


🛒 Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika or chili powder (optional)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 8 slices Texas toast
  • Butter or margarine, for spreading

🔥 Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the beef mixture

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic; cook 3–4 minutes until softened.

2️⃣ Add sauce ingredients

  • Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer 10–15 minutes until thick and bubbly.

3️⃣ Prepare Texas toast

  • Butter one side of each slice.
  • Toast in a skillet or oven until golden and slightly crispy.

4️⃣ Assemble Sloppy Joes

  • Spoon beef mixture onto a slice of Texas toast.
  • Top with another slice (optional) or serve open-faced.

5️⃣ Serve

  • Enjoy with pickles, coleslaw, or chips on the side.

🌿 Tips & Variations

  • Add shredded cheddar cheese on top for extra richness.
  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Spice it up with a few dashes of hot sauce or cayenne.
  • Make it a one-pan meal by adding diced potatoes or sweet corn to the beef mixture.
