Tater tot casserole

Posted on February 7, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic Tater Tot Casserole—crispy on top, creamy underneath, and packed with beef and veggies. It’s a comfort food favorite.

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

For the Base:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz / 300 g) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn, etc.)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Topping:

  • 1 (32 oz / 900 g) bag frozen tater tots
  • 1–2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

1. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Cook the Base

  1. In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onions and garlic; sauté 3–4 minutes until soft.
  3. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, frozen vegetables, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined.

3. Assemble the Casserole

  1. Spread the beef and vegetable mixture evenly in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange tater tots in a single layer on top of the mixture.
  3. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots.

4. Bake

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, until tater tots are golden and crispy and cheese is melted and bubbly.

5. Serve

  • Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
  • Serve hot with a simple side salad for balance.

💡 Tips:

  • For extra crispiness, broil the casserole for 2–3 minutes at the end.
  • You can add mushrooms, green beans, or bell peppers for more vegetables.
  • Make-ahead tip: Assemble the casserole ahead of time, cover, and refrigerate. Bake an extra 10 minutes if chilled.

If you want, I can also give a Nigerian-inspired tater tot casserole with a spicy tomato-beef base for a fusion twist.

Do you want me to do that?
