Classic Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
- 400 g (14 oz) spaghetti
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (400 g / 14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper
- Optional: chili flakes, basil or oregano
- Grated Parmesan, for serving
Instructions
- Cook spaghetti in well-salted boiling water until al dente. Reserve ½ cup pasta water, then drain.
- Make sauce: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add garlic and cook ~30 seconds (don’t brown).
- Add crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, and optional chili flakes/herbs. Simmer 10–15 minutes.
- Combine spaghetti with sauce, adding a splash of pasta water if needed.
- Serve hot with Parmesan and fresh basil.
Variations
- Spaghetti Aglio e Olio: Olive oil, garlic, chili flakes, parsley.
- Spaghetti Bolognese: Add browned ground beef and onion.
