Soufflé

Posted on March 27, 2026 by Admin

A soufflé is a light, airy French dish that rises dramatically in the oven thanks to whipped egg whites. It can be sweet (like chocolate) or savory (like cheese), with a soft, almost cloud-like texture inside.

🍮 What is a Soufflé?

The name comes from French language and means “to puff” or “to blow”—which is exactly what happens as it bakes.

🧀 Basic Cheese Soufflé Recipe (Savory)

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 eggs (separated)
  • 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar or gruyère)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C and grease a baking dish.
  2. Melt butter in a pan, add flour, and cook 1 minute.
  3. Gradually add milk, stirring to make a thick sauce.
  4. Remove from heat, add cheese and egg yolks.
  5. In another bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gently fold egg whites into the mixture (don’t overmix).
  7. Pour into dish and bake for 20–25 minutes until puffed and golden.

🍫 Sweet Version (Chocolate Idea)

  • Add melted chocolate + sugar instead of cheese
  • Serve with powdered sugar or cream

⚠️ Important Tips:

  • Don’t open the oven early—it can collapse
  • Fold gently to keep air in the batter
  • Serve immediately (it deflates quickly!)

🍽️ Texture:

  • Outside: lightly firm
  • Inside: soft, airy, slightly creamy

If you want, I can show you a simple beginner soufflé (less likely to collapse) or a no-oven version hack 👍
