Smash burger

Posted on April 3, 2026 by Admin

Here’s how to make a crispy, juicy smash burger—that restaurant-style crust you crave 🍔🔥:

🍔 Smash Burger

🔹 Ingredients (per burger)

  • 4–6 oz ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
  • Salt & pepper
  • 1 soft burger bun (potato buns work great)
  • 1–2 slices of cheese (American, cheddar, or your choice)
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, caramelized onions, ketchup, mustard, mayo

🔹 Instructions

1. Prep the beef

  • Divide beef into loose balls (~4–6 oz each)
  • Do not overwork—keep it tender

2. Heat the pan

  • Preheat a heavy skillet, cast iron, or griddle over high heat
  • Add a thin layer of oil

3. Smash the patty

  • Place a beef ball on the hot surface
  • Using a spatula or burger press, smash firmly into a thin patty (~¼ inch thick)
  • Season immediately with salt & pepper

4. Cook

  • Cook 2–3 minutes without moving to develop a crust
  • Flip carefully
  • Add cheese on top immediately if making a cheeseburger
  • Cook another 1–2 minutes

5. Toast the buns

  • Butter buns lightly and toast on the same pan until golden

6. Assemble

  • Bottom bun → patty (with melted cheese) → toppings → top bun
  • Serve immediately

🔹 Tips for the Best Smash Burger

  • High heat = Maillard crust, low heat = soggy burger
  • Thin patties cook fast—no pressing after the first smash
  • Use soft buns to soak up juices without falling apart
  • Caramelized onions or a quick garlic butter on the bun takes it next level

I can also give you a fast 2-patty double smash burger recipe or a restaurant-style smash burger with special sauce that tastes like Shake Shack.

Do you want me to do that?
