Ingredients (6–8 servings)

  • 3–4 lb (1.4–1.8 kg) beef brisket
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (or your favorite)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Prep the Brisket:
    Season the brisket generously with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
  2. Sear the Meat (Optional but Recommended):
    Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear brisket for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. This adds extra flavor but can be skipped if short on time.
  3. Prepare Slow Cooker:
    Place sliced onions and minced garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker. Lay the brisket on top.
  4. Add Liquids:
    Mix beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and chili flakes. Pour over the brisket.
  5. Cook:
    Cover and cook on low for 8–10 hours or high for 4–5 hours, until the brisket is fork-tender.
  6. Rest and Slice:
    Remove brisket from slow cooker and let it rest for 10–15 minutes. Slice against the grain.
    Optional: Skim fat from the sauce and reduce it in a skillet for a thicker gravy.
  7. Serve:
    Serve sliced brisket with sauce over mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or in sandwiches.
