Posted on January 28, 2026 by Admin

Absolutely! Shepherd’s Pie is classic comfort food—savory meat, hearty veggies, topped with creamy mashed potatoes 🥔🥩

🥧 Shepherd’s Pie

⏱️ Time

  • Prep: 20 minutes
  • Cook: 30–35 minutes
  • Total: ~55 minutes

🛒 Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 lb ground lamb (or beef for cottage pie)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp thyme (dried or fresh)
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Topping

  • 3–4 cups mashed potatoes (buttery and creamy)
  • 1–2 tbsp butter (optional, for extra richness)

🔥 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the meat until cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion, carrots, and garlic. Cook 5–6 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire, thyme, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle in flour if using to thicken.
  5. Pour in broth, simmer 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in peas.
  6. Transfer filling to a greased 9×9 or 9×13-inch baking dish.
  7. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top. Optional: use a fork to create a textured surface for browning.
  8. Bake 20–25 minutes until potatoes are lightly golden and edges bubble.
  9. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

🌟 Tips & Variations

  • Cheesy topping: Sprinkle shredded cheddar over mashed potatoes before baking.
  • Veggie boost: Add corn, green beans, or mushrooms to the filling.
  • Make ahead: Assemble, cover, and refrigerate; bake when ready.
  • Individual servings: Use ramekins for single-serving shepherd’s pies.

This dish is hearty, comforting, and perfect for cold nights 😋

I can also give a slow-cooker version where the filling simmers all day and mashed potatoes go on at the end. Do you want that?
