Posted on March 25, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a comforting and easy Sausage and Potato Casserole—hearty, creamy, and perfect for a family meal.

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450 g) sausages (pork, beef, or chicken)
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk or cream
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp dried thyme (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook sausages:
    • In a skillet, cook sausages until browned.
    • Slice into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
  3. Sauté aromatics:
    • In the same skillet, cook onions and garlic in olive oil until soft and fragrant.
  4. Layer the casserole:
    • Grease a baking dish.
    • Add a layer of potatoes, then sausage and onion mixture.
    • Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme.
    • Repeat layers until ingredients are used.
  5. Add liquid & cheese:
    • Pour milk or cream evenly over the casserole.
    • Sprinkle cheese on top.
  6. Bake:
    • Cover with foil and bake 40 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender and top is golden.
  7. Serve:
    • Let rest 5 minutes before serving.

Tips & Variations

  • Add bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Use spicy sausage for a kick.
  • For a richer dish, mix a little cream cheese or sour cream into the milk.
  • Thinly slicing potatoes ensures even cooking.

✅ Tip: For a crispy, cheesy top, broil the casserole for the last 2–3 minutes.

If you want, I can give a quick stovetop or slow cooker version of this dish too.
