Sausage and Potato Casserole

Posted on March 25, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a hearty, comforting Sausage and Potato Casserole recipe that’s easy to make and perfect for a family meal:

Ingredients (serves 4–6)

  • 1 lb (450 g) sausages (pork, beef, or chicken)
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (optional)
  • 1 cup milk or cream
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary, or parsley)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the sausages:
    • In a skillet, brown sausages over medium heat until fully cooked.
    • Slice into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
  3. Cook onions and garlic:
    • In the same skillet, sauté onions and garlic in olive oil until softened.
  4. Assemble the casserole:
    • Grease a baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom.
    • Add half of the sausage and onion mixture. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
    • Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, sausage, and onions.
  5. Add liquid and cheese:
    • Pour milk or cream over the layers.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheese on top if desired.
  6. Bake:
    • Cover with foil and bake 40 minutes.
    • Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender and top is golden.
  7. Serve:
    • Let rest 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

✅ Tip: Thinly slice potatoes so they cook evenly. You can also add vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or peas for extra flavor.

I can also give a quick one-pan stovetop version that’s ready in about 30 minutes if you want a faster version.
