🥩 Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy
Classic comfort food — tender beef patties simmered in rich brown mushroom gravy. Perfect over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
📝 Ingredients
For the Steaks:
- 1 ½ lbs ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup finely chopped onion
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 2 tbsp butter
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- ½ onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & pepper to taste
👩🍳 Instructions
- Make patties:
In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, ketchup, Worcestershire, and seasonings.
Form into 4–5 oval patties. - Brown the steaks:
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned.
Remove and set aside (they’ll finish cooking in the gravy). - Cook mushrooms & onions:
In the same skillet, melt butter. Add mushrooms and onions. Cook until softened and browned. - Make gravy:
Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire.
Simmer until thickened (about 3–5 minutes). - Finish cooking:
Return patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through and tender.
✨ Make It Even Better
- Add a splash of heavy cream for richer gravy.
- Stir in a teaspoon of Dijon mustard for depth.
- For extra tenderness, grate the onion instead of chopping it.
Serve with mashed potatoes, green beans, or buttered corn.
