Puri

Posted on April 9, 2026 by Admin

Puri is a popular Indian deep-fried bread made from wheat flour. It’s light, puffy, and golden, often served with curries, vegetables, or sweets.

Ingredients (for 8–10 puris)

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp sugar (optional, for slight sweetness)
  • 2 tsp oil or ghee
  • Water (as needed to make a dough)
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Make the dough:
    • Mix wheat flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
    • Add 2 tsp oil and slowly add water to knead a soft, smooth dough.
    • Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15–20 minutes.
  2. Roll the puris:
    • Divide the dough into small balls (about lemon-sized).
    • Roll each ball into a small circle, about 4–5 inches in diameter. Avoid rolling too thin.
  3. Fry the puris:
    • Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat.
    • Slide one puri into the hot oil; it should puff up quickly.
    • Fry until golden brown on both sides.
    • Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Serve:
    • Best served hot with chana masala, aloo curry, or halwa.

If you want, I can give a combo recipe for a full Indian breakfast using puris with a simple potato curry and sweet halwa. That’s a classic combo in India.

Do you want me to do that?
